After having huge success in the Formula Regional Americas season opener at NOLA Motorsports Park two weeks ago, TJ Speed is back to work preparing for their next Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires race at Barber Motorsports Park. Their last appearance at St. Pete wasn’t as successful as the team had hoped, but a good test last week and renewed energy will power a pair of rookies this coming weekend in Alabama.
Team drivers James Roe and Kyffin Simpson will attend the second Indy Lights race weekend of the season flying the TJ Speed colors. Following a tough weekend in St. Pete, the team hopes this upcoming race in Alabama will go smoothly and allow them to climb to a higher spot in the running for both the driver and team championship trophy. With Roe and Simpson both rookies in the top tier of the Road to Indy ladder, they will be looking to gain valuable experience and championship points at the picturesque Leeds, Alabama facility.
“Both Kyffin and James are hungry,” explained Tim Neff. “St. Pete was our debut in the series and too be blunt, it was not a good one. We are up against some very stacked programs, but we will keep plugging away and doing what we can, where we can, and our turn will come.”
Both Simpson and Roe attended the Barber Motorsports Park series test on April 18th. Former winner in the F2000 Championship, FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda and the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, James Roe, in his first year in Indy Lights, is looking for a solid run this time around. Simpson, the Formula Regional Americas 2021 Driver Champion returning this year with TJ Speed and moving up to the Indy Lights side rounds out the team’s impressive duo and long list of accomplishments, but they are not satisfied.
With two very accomplished drivers, there is little stopping this team from climbing all the way to the top. They’ll continue the battle for the team and driver championship in Alabama this weekend, April 29th through May 1st at Barber Motorsports Park. You can follow along all weekend on their social media pages on both Facebook and Instagram.
