With two new drivers in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship this year, TJ Speed has taken their time figuring out the strategy, gradually bettering their results as the season plays out. Piggybacking off of their career best result in Indy Lights at Barber Motorsports Park, TJ Speed aims to have the same increasing success at the team’s hometown track, the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.
“We had a great fifth place end result at Barber Motorsports Park with Kyffin,” explained Team Owner Tim Neff. “It could have been even better, but we’re still happy with the finish and we’re ready to show that we are here to compete with the best of the best in Indianapolis.”
Flashback to the Indianapolis Indy Lights testing day at the beginning of April, the team ran in cooler conditions with dry weather action in the morning and wet weather lapping in the afternoon. With much warmer temperatures expected for the weekend, TJ Speed drivers are eager to see how different the track conditions will be with a predicted dry, hot, sunny race day.
Neff continued, “We are looking forward to Indy. It is an event and track that we circled on our calendar as we have had some test days here and our drivers have both experience and success here. The long straight provides for ample opportunity to draft and use push to pass, so we are anticipating an action-packed race but as always, the key will be to qualify well.”
With the team and their drivers feeling confident going into the weekend, TJ Speed will hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 13th for practice, qualifying and the first race of their double header weekend. Race two will take place on Saturday, just prior to the start of the mid-afternoon NTT INDYCAR Series race..You can follow along all weekend on the TJ Speed social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
